What Do You Have That You Did Not Receive?

Pride is the heinous sin common to mankind, no one needs to teach us to be proud but pride so effortlessly thrives in our sinful nature. How sensitive are you to your sin of pride? Let us ponder on three key questions that Paul had posed to uproot pride: Who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

Stewards Must Prove Faithful

The Bible tells us God is the ultimate Judge, but how much do you also care about how people judge you? How much do you trust your own self-appraisal? Being servants and stewards of God, how can we be faithful to what He entrusted us?

One Plants, Another Waters, But God Makes Things Grow

How much do we hold onto the verse, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain…” (Ps 127:1a) when we go about doing our work? Does the fact that it all depends on God to make things grow mean that we do not need to labor? We not only have our respective God-assigned roles, but the quality of each person’s work will also be tested. When the test comes, will we be rewarded or suffer loss?

God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit

Does it seem that Christians don’t value wisdom and that we cannot exercise our minds if we were to believe in Jesus? Paul sought to correct such misperceptions. The cross and gospel of Christ is not foolishness but wisdom, yet who can understand such wisdom of God?

Only know Christ and Him crucified

<1 Co 2> 1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with […]

Is Christ Divided?

Church unity was at the top of the list of things Paul wanted to address with the Corinthian church. What causes divisions? What happens if we are more impressed by human wisdom and eloquence than by God? What kind of unity should we pursue?

Called and Kept by God

All blessings came from God’s grace and faithfulness, but can we give thanks simply because of that, or must we see certain desired outcomes first? It is by God’s grace that we are called to Him, but God calls us for what purpose? What does fellowship with Christ mean to you? Have you ever worried about whether you can stand firm in faith to the very end?

Sowing to Please the Spirit

Do you tend to compare with people and think of yourself too highly or lowly in relation to them? How can we restore a right relationship with others, to love them and carry their burdens while not growing weary of doing good?

Walk by the Spirit and Bear its Fruit

The gospel message emphasises a lot on justification by faith alone, our works do not contribute to our salvation, but what about the lifestyle of Christians who are graciously saved? What are the evidences of our life transformation in Christ? Do you experience the conflict between your flesh and the Spirit? How can we overcome the desires of the flesh? Do we have the fruit of the Spirit in our lives?

Freedom Not To Sin, But To Love

<Gal 5> 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.3 Again I declare to every man […]
