Understanding Homosexuality

Understanding Homosexuality

Audio Player:

A Background:

* Sexual revolution in the 1960s.

* Begin to see a change in sexual patterns and appetites.

* LGBTQ seeking equal status legally and socially.

* Waves of homosexual movement came to the East.

* Taiwan – Legalize same sex marriage.

* Open and Democratic countries feeling the tension. E.g. Singapore – Pink Dot SG.

* LGBTQ slogans – Inclusiveness, diversity and the freedom to love.

* LGBTQ movement making inroads to the compound of the church.

* Openly professed LGBTQ ordained as church ministers.

* More young people (including Christians) lean on the side of empathy.

<Lev 20:13>: If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

<Lev 18:22>: You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

<Deu 23:17-18> 17 No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute. 18 You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute into the house of the Lord your God to pay any vow, because the Lord your God detests them both.

<1 Ti 1:8-11> 8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

<Ro 1:18,21-32>: 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness…

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.

25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

* <Ro 1>: The sins of men in their reprobate state – Unnatural sexual lusts were clearly mentioned.

* Yet, the critical question for the modern church is: What is it that love demands us to do for the homosexuals?

* Dilemma: To seek their redemption and healing in Christ, yet not condoning them sins.

* Ultimately, repentance is still needed.

* Fundamental position: Biologically, essentially, and intrinsically, homosexual do not exist.

* One is only a homosexual when he commits a homosexual act.

* Dealing with homosexuals fundamentally is about dealing with their sexual morality, not personality or interest.

* No evidence in the medical or psychological world that homosexuality is a genetically controlled thing.

* Psychological Complex of a homosexual: Having a serious, extreme lack of confidence in one’s muscularity or femininity.

* Either direct or indirect insinuations gotten from people or society.

* Homosexual ideas being reinforced and made-belief to the struggling person.

* Though a passive victim, homosexuality is still ultimately a sin of the CHOICE made by the sinner.

* Ultimately, they must still be brought to Repentance, not just acknowledgement.

* Christian Counsellors can help by leading them to a sense of truth, countering their wrong perceptions. E.g. God created male and female <Ge 1:27>.

* What God has created can always be verified biologically.

* Knowing what God has called us to morally and sexually will help set the homosexuals on the right path.

Further Understanding of Homosexuals:

  • Pure homosexual.
  • Bisexual by circumstantial necessity.
  • Bisexual through seeking for sexual variety and thrill.

Conclusion

  • Continue to speak about the seriousness of such sins (Never compromise).
  • Yet, be compassionate and merciful to those who are in bondage or have been victimized.
  • Bringing them to a blessed environment with a healthy sense of sexuality.
  • Be proactive in saving those who are in experimenting stage.
