Hi brothers and sisters in Christ, a very blessed Chinese New Year to you. We have been through unchartered waters for the past one and a half year. From history, we know men always look for a deliverer in times of uncertainties. That only goes to show we are finite and limited.
But the sad thing is we men usually don’t seek the divine one as our deliverer.
Rather, we look to men for deliverance.
We look to scientists, we look to the government, we look to the economist, or we look to any so called great renowned figures who could shed some lights or point the way.
We know how President Biden, with his executive orders, has given strength to the liberal left. I mean the humanists would have celebrated.
Few days ago, I just read how Elon Musk (the richest person in this world now) has made a 1.5 billion investment in bitcoin, and it simply sends the price of bitcoin soaring. And news like this excites investors and instill greed in people.
Now, the world may call this hope. But spiritually, we know this is a facade and that draws our mind to the illusion of the world.
Now, seeing these phenomena, which I believe will increase in measure, I am sort of reminded by what the Lord said that,
“things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come” <Lk 17:1>.
Now, there are dark hidden forces and machineries at work, which we could not see it superficially. And before we know it, the world has adopted certain ideologies or movements as the norm. It happens with the woman rights movement, it happens with abortion, it happens with the legislation of LGBTQ… it has happened, and it is happening, my brethren. And what lies beneath is the erosion of biblical truths.
But why is God allowing this, you may ask?
The answer is HE is allowing this so that the sins of men will reach its full measure. God is allowing this to “give people over” to deceptions.
Understand this my brethren, when the Lord is allowing sins to the full measure, HE is segregating the sheep from the goat. He is separating the wheats from the weeds. As the Word says:
The Lord knows those who are his < 2 Ti 2:19>.
And someone may ask “Is the Lord coming soon?” Now I would say no one knows. But with every Era, Christians are faced with a cultural battle. We have to stand firm against the cultural and civilization assimilation. While we’ve no problem eating, drinking, studying and working in this world, but we have problem believing what the world believes. And the reminder has to be constantly there.
And I am glad to remind you with a message about our God who reveals and intervenes during dark moments. And I pray, with this message today that we will live with a different hope.
Now, this morning, I came across this passage which I think is a message that God is giving to this Era which rejected Him as the deliverer.
<Daniel 2:21-23>: He (God) changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
Now, if you’re losing hope in this humanistic world, let me say start by saying that God is sovereignly in control with ALL worldly powers.
The passage says clearly with regards to all worldly powers and civilization: He changes… he deposes…. He raises up. Now, never believe for a moment, it’s the people’s power, or democracy or socialism that puts people in power. God is behind the institution of all kings and governments. He is engineering everything that you see happening in this world, just that HE is not responsible for every sin that men have chosen to do out of their own will.
Yet the bottom line is God is doing all these for His glory and for the well-being of His people.
As the passage suggested, God instituted King Nebuchadnezzar to be humbled by God, to be humbled by the wisdom which HE has given Daniel. And that is why the verses went on to talk about how God sovereignly reveals things to His chosen people.
Over here, it says: God gives wisdom to the wise (i.e. people who revere Him), and HE reveals deep and hidden things.
Now, one definite reason which people fear is because they don’t know the things which they need to.
And now, the wise men of Babylon are fearful because they do not know the dream of Nebuchadnezzar. Not knowing means uncertainties, means danger, it could even mean loss and death. And in fact, this is what we are having now with the coronavirus, people don’t know about the virus, people don’t know how the economy will be, that’s why people scramble. People came out with false hypothesis and releases fake news. You see my brethren, the unknowns always create fear. And that is the reason why God reveals things to His people. God reveal things to us through His word and spirit, even in a world of uncertainties.
But how many of us are reading the Bible more than sifting news from the internet? How many of us are having a perspective of the world based on the providence of God, rather than by chance?
Make no mistake my brethren. The verses today tell us that God has make known to Daniel what he has asked of Him, and God does reveal to us too.
Now, even as the world turns liberal and humanism becomes rampant, let us be sure that God does make things known to people who seeks Him.
However, if you are looking to know exact times and events in the world, I’m sorry to say that God doesn’t give those revelations in precise form as how he has given it in the old testament. But HE does give us a sense of what is to come. And HE does intervene by allowing judgment to come intermittently.
The one who puts his trust in human deliverer will be put to shame!
Yet, if we seek Him and obey Him in our ways, we will not be caught by surprise. Let us be Christians who could discern the times.
For our God is not One who keeps silent in a world of chaos.
He reveals, and He intervenes, for His glory, and for the benefit of His Church.
